Joann Engert

Joann Eileen Engert, 87, formerly of Huntley, IL, of Whitewater, WI and of Chicago passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024 at Green Fields of Geneva. She was born on December 9, 1936 in Chicago to Margaret (McLaughlin) and Thomas Ginley. She married her beloved Martin Engert on November 10, 1979. She attended Alvernia High School and graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing, Chicago, IL in 1957. She is survived by her sisters Patricia McCarthy, brother-in-law Daniel and Gail Cross and brother-in-law Charles, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Joseph Ginley, sisters Mary Ginley, Margaret (Ralph) Jones, Sarah (Peter) Klein and in 2007 her beloved husband of 27 years, Martin (Mickey) Engert.

She practiced as a nurse for 28 years, 26 of those as a surgical nurse. She left nursing and worked in a community library in Whitewater, WI for 13 years and then retired with her husband to Sun City in Huntley, IL. She later moved to Green Fields of Geneva, IL.

She enjoyed many crafts including quilting and watercolor pencil drawing. She loved being with family and especially the family picnics. Visitation Sunday, July 21 ^st from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M.. Cumberland Chapels (FRIEL FUNERAL DIRECTORS) 8300 W. Lawrence Avenue, Norridge, IL. Family and friends are asked to meet on Monday at St. Edna Catholic Church 2525 N. Arlington Heights from 9:00 AM till time of Funeral Mass 10:00 A.M., Interment All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia Research Foundation or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
