John J. “Jim” McCaw, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, after a 9 year battle with GIST cancer. He is survived by his soul mate and the love of his life Margot Cipriani; his daughters, Karen (Matthew) Kucharski of Crystal Lake, Beth (Matthew) Penna of Algonquin, son, Kevin (Debbie) McCaw of San Diego; grandchildren, Lauren, Victoria, Daisy, Zane and Sam. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and John. Jim was a pipefitter who retired from the CTA in 2001 and thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. He was an avid golfer, often playing 36 holes a day and worked out at the gym twice a day until a short time ago. Some of his favorite activities include pillow fights and rough housing with his grandsons, making pizza for family parties and golfing with his granddaughters who affectionately referred to him as Grandpa JJ. He loved talking about politics and despite his union background was an avid Republican. He surprised his family over the last few months by expressing his support for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Please think of him when you vote in November. He filled the room with his presence and had a joke or story for everyone he met. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to JourneyCare Hospice, 405 N.
