Jesus "Jesse" Avila

Jesus "Jesse" Avila, aged 67, a retired Chicago Police Officer of 30 years' service, passed away unexpectedly on October 15, 2026.

Jesse was born in Guanajuato, Mexico on November 23, 1959, to the loving care of his parents, Cecelio and Eugenia Avila. At the age of 5, Jesse along with his family immigrated to the United States and settled in Chicago. Jesse graduated from Lane Technical High School and then from MacMurray College with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1986, Jesse joined the Chicago Police Department, and his career took him through various assignments in the 011th, 014th, 020th, and 024th Districts, serving primarily as a Field Training Officer. Along the way, Jesse earned his Master's Degree from Lewis University, eventually retiring from the job in July of 2017.

Jesse was the loving father of Nicholas "Nick" (Emily) Avila and Benjamin "Ben" (Haley) Avila; cherished grandpa to Cecilia James Avila; dear brother to Maria (German) Aguirre, Jose "Joe" (Betty) Avila, Raul A. (Margaret) Avila, Lilia (Louis, CPD ret) Kuszynski, Ciriaco "Cid" Avila, Sebastian Avila, Eugenia "Gina" (Jack) Gamboa, Esperanza "Hope" (Carlos) Rios, and Marcelina " Marcy" Avila. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecelio and Eugenia Avila, his beloved siblings, Delfina (Henry) Tutaj, Eugenio Avila, Raul Avila, and Angelica Avila; fond uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawerence Ave., from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will follow on October 22, 2026, from the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. proceeding to Immaculate Conception for a mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment Maryhill Cemetery.
