On October 6, 2021, Jean Hart left us peacefully in Chicago, IL. She was born into this world on November 17, 1945 to Lawrence (Bud) Hart and Margaret (Marge) Hart nee Martiny. She is survived by many loving friends and Hart & Martiny Cousins.
Jean grew up as a West Side Girl. She attended and is a survivor of the Our Lady of the Angels School fire. A moment that will live on in many of our lives. She graduated from Sienna High School. Jean continued on to earn her degree at St. Dominick’s College in St. Charles, IL. receiving a BS in Biology and Education, then received her Masters of Education at National College of Education in Evanston, IL. In 1998-2000, Jean worked in summers for AT&T on creating technology for teaching and testing basic Biology. She was an accomplished woman.
Miss Hart taught Biology for over 4 decades in Catholic Schools. Starting with St Petronille in Glen Ellyn (3yrs), St. Francis HS in Wheaton (3yrs), the majority at St. Patrick’s HS in Chicago (27yrs), and finishing her career at Notre Dame HS in Niles (8yrs), as Department Chair. She loved teaching and many students kept in touch throughout her lifetime. Jean participated in many extra-curricular school activities like Blood Drive, Wrestling Team and Parent’s Club Events.
Jean was active in: International Society for Technology in Education, National Science Teachers Assn., National Biology Teachers Assn. She had many interests, from conservation of wildlife, documentaries and Broadway Plays. Closest to her heart was lifelong relationships with fellow survivors of Our Lady of the Angels fire on December 1, 1958. Jean always participated and attended their reunions and anniversary Masses.
Throughout her life, Jean has collected and cherished many of our hearts and souls. She was kind beyond means and generous to a fault. Her life was full and she lived it her way. She was dependable, loyal and honest and will be missed by many.
Visitation will be Monday, October 18, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Funeral services begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home, and proceed to St. Eugene Church in Chicago for Mass at 11:00 a.m. The interment will be private at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
