Jamie Patrice Lyon, née Dolan, age 72, passed away unexpectedly at her home on June 5, 2024. Jamie, daughter of Ann and Walter Dolan, was born on June 24, 1951 in Chicago, IL. She adored her parents and grew up the middle daughter of three girls. She spent her early years at St. Monica's in Chicago before moving on to graduate high school from St. Patrick's Academy in Des Plaines. She received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and went on to earn her MBA from the University of Chicago. She began a successful career in sales, which at the time was mostly male-dominated, flourishing in a profession that she found both exciting and challenging. In her twenties, she had great adventures traveling the world for both business and pleasure, making moves and cherished memories.
While working as a saleswoman for Mobil, she met the love of her life, Larry. They were married in 1981 and spent the next four decades by each others' side until Larry passed in 2020. Jamie became a stepmother right away to two loving stepchildren, Aimee and Tommy. Their family soon grew with the birth of their daughter, Katie, in 1981, and their daughter, Kara Joy, in 1985.
Jamie then found a second calling as a homemaker, doting on her children and caring for her family. Jamie and Larry shared their love of travel, music, movies, and games with their children. The family had many adventures together where they made some wonderful memories, including fulfilling Jamie's wish to travel to Ireland.
Jamie was one of a kind - a great conversationalist known for her generosity, wit, intelligence, and humor. She was beyond thoughtful and would do anything for those she loved. She was a loyal and cherished friend to so many. Several of her friendships spanned decades and her friends are mourning this loss as deeply as her family.
One of Jamie's greatest joys was becoming a grandmother. She was devoted to the kids and absolutely spoiled them their entire lives. She was always willing to babysit, challenge the kids to a game, get into character to play pretend, or give practical life advice. She also loved to regale her grandkids and kids about growing up on the Northwest side during the 1950's and 1960's.
In addition to being a hilarious storyteller, many people relied on Jamie for her guidance and words of wisdom. No one could write a card like her, whether it was for a celebration, graduation, sympathy, or support. She spoke from the heart and always had the right words. May her letters and notes be a comfort to her loved ones who were lucky enough to receive them.
She will be missed immensely.
Jamie is survived by her children Katherine Sullivan (the late Thomas), Kara Smith (Nathan), Aimee Flies, and Thomas Lyon (Karin); her grandchildren David Joseph (“DJ”), Jake Austin, Dylan Thomas, and Ava Jeanne; her sisters Marian Fricano (Albert) and Denise Voiss; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is reunited in death with her dearly missed husband Larry; her loving parents Ann & Walter Dolan; many aunts and uncles, especially her Aunt Rosalie O'Donoghue, as well as her Uncle John and Aunt Loretta Egan; her son-in-law Sgt. Thomas Sullivan; and cherished lifelong friends Maureen Jefferson, David DeBrocke, and Patricia Mizula
