James W. Sullivan, age 72, passed away peacefully yet suddenly on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. This news was completely unexpected, leaving family and friends feeling their world would never be the same.
Jim, also known as “Sully”, was born September 8, 1949, in the Rogers Park neighborhood (aka “the Patch'') on the Northside of Chicago, Illinois, to parents Charles and Mary (McKiernan) Sullivan. His early days were spent protecting his little sister, Maureen, unsuccessfully trying to avoid nuns, and reorganizing the neighborhood park benches at the beach with his lifelong friends. After attending St. Ignatius Grammar School, he joined the Seminary, and ultimately attended St. George High School.
He served in the U. S. Marines Corps in 1968 and never stopped serving his brothers and fellow man. After his years of service to our country, he devoted his life and loyalty to the Local 150 International Union of Operating Engineers for 50 years, proudly obtaining his Golden Card.
A doting father to his two daughters, Colleen and Kristine, they were the apples of his eye. He was proud of them, no matter the feat. They were his babies, no matter their age.
An adoring husband, Ladonna and Jim were a perfect match. Jim moved out to the “country”, where they began their journey. He took pride in his role as a stepfather to Carl Michael (Buehler) enjoying the new adventures of raising a teenage son. A devoted Grandpa to Joey, Ava, and Jake, he continued the same traditions that he had started with his kids. He loved to share his deep thoughts, gourmet tastes, and joie de vivre.
He was a renaissance man: an actor, a sailor, a traveler, and an athlete. He spoke several languages and made the whole world laugh, even when he got impatient. He had a loud, deep, voice, yet he wanted YOU to be heard. He was fierce in his devotion to helping others. If there was something he could do for you, you knew he was the one to do it. There will never be another Jim Sullivan. He was one of a kind and they broke the mold.
Jim’s memory will forever be cherished by his wife, Ladonna, his sister, Maureen Ramquist and her husband Randy, daughter Colleen Sullivan and her morethan, Jonathan Morgan, his daughter Kristine Brandon and her husband Ezekiel, his stepson Carl Michael Buehler and his wife Alexa, his three grandchildren (Colleen), Joseph Jimenez, Ava Jimenez, and Jacob Jimenez, his nephew Michael Sheets, and his canine daughter, Lady.
Visitation for Jim will be Sunday April 24, 2022, from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Funeral Service will take place on Monday April 25, 2022, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. We will then proceed to St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine, IL for the interment.
