James Beath

Reverend James D. Beath, age 69, passed away suddenly on September 29, 2022. Fr. Beath was born on September 3, 1953 in Chicago. He attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago, Niles College in Niles, and the University of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein.

He was ordained to the priesthood on May 9, 1979, by Cardinal John Cody, and celebrated his first solemn Mass on May 20, 1979 at his home parish of St. Benedict in Chicago.
Fr. Beath received his bachelor’s psychology from Niles College and his master’s in divinity from St. Mary of the Lake Seminary.

A great lover of Irish culture he studied in Ireland to learn other approaches to liturgy and service. Fr. Beath served in various parishes throughout the archdiocese as a pastor and parish priest for over 43 years. His latest assignment was at Divine Savior in Norridge, IL where he helped transition the congregation in the consolidation with two other parishes. Fr. Beath loved being a parish priest and working for the people he served.

Visitation Friday, October 14, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. until the 12:00 noon Mass at St. Eugene Catholic Church 7958 W. Foster Ave., Chicago, IL. The interment will follow at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in River Grove. For more information call (708)456-8300.
