Ingeborg Vruno

January 21, 1927 — July 12, 2020

INGEBORG VRUNO (née Berge) was born on January 21, 1927, to Norwegian immigrants and born to eternal life on July 12, 2020, after a full, rich life of more than 93 years on earth. A devoted wife and mother, she was preceded in death (in 2005) by Joseph Vruno, her cherished husband of 58 years. A native of Chicago’s Northwest Side, “Ingie” had three siblings: Edward (Elly) Berge, James (Terri) Berge and the late Anne (Berge) DeFranco.A devoted wife and mother, Ingie worked at Motorola before starting a family. She and Joe bought a house in 1957 in nearby Norridge, where they raised their three children: the late Barbara (Ed) Modic, Gail (Mark) Johnson and Mark Vruno. She was the proud and supportive grandmother of Kimberly, Karen, Joe, Amy and Mark Modic; Sandra (Johnson) Hays and Laura (Johnson) Lavish; and Kirsten and Matthew Vruno. In addition, she was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Ashlynn and Lillian Hays and Jack and Megan Lavish. She was the beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews.A long-time member of Acacia Park Lutheran Church, Mrs. Vruno was a Christian woman of strong faith who for many years taught Sunday School as well as Vacation Bible School. She also supervised the church’s nursery and served as a dedicated member of the Altar Committee. Later in life, Ingie volunteered her time at the village’s Senior Assistance Center. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as Friday night card games with dear friends Ann and Bob Turk, now also departed -- cocktails and appetizers were served, of course! And, she adored her “Birthday Lunch” ladies from church. Grandma loved nothing more, however, than big birthday and holiday parties in her basement and, especially, Sunday dinners with her treasured family.Due to health concerns surrounding the Coronavirus, a private funeral service is planned for immediate family only. A luncheon and celebration of life will be scheduled for later this year. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) in memory of Ingeborg Vruno.
