In Loving Memory of Ines Canepa, July 20, 1947 - August 26, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and Mama Ines, Ines Canepa, who departed peacefully surrounded by her family on August 26, 2025. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, hard work, and an indomitable spirit that touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Ines was the beloved wife of the late John; loving mother of Carla (Scott) Canepa Castellanos, Gina (Hector) Fabregas, Louis (Stephanie) Canepa, and John-Paul Canepa; cherished Mama Ines of Tatiana Fabregas, Quinlan Castellanos, Joaquin Fabregas, Gavin Castellanos, Gael Fabregas, Catalaya Ines Fabregas, Carter Canepa, Anthony Canepa, and Cali Canepa; dear sister of Isaac (Claudia) Morales, Martha (Ciro) Camacho, Sylvia Morales, Ruben (Angelica) Morales, and the late Ramon (the late Elba) Morales, Rebecca Morales, Eucario Morales, Mercedes Morales, and Alejandro (Susana) Morales; and a beloved aunt to many.
Ines was more than a mother, wife, or friend—she was the heart of her family. Born in Teocaltiche, Mexico, she grew up with resilience and faith that carried her throughout her life. As a child, she moved to Chicago, learning English and adapting to a new culture with courage and grace. Later, destiny brought her back to Chicago, where she met her husband. Together they shared over 45 years of marriage, raised four children, and built a home filled with warmth, love, and strong values.
Hard-working and determined, Ines helped her husband build two successful businesses, showing her children the power of perseverance, dedication, and faith. Later, she fulfilled a dream of traveling the world, embracing new cultures while keeping her children connected to their roots—teaching them Spanish and the pride of their heritage.
Her home was always open. She welcomed neighbors, friends, nieces, and nephews with the same love she showed her own children—offering guidance, comfort, and a listening ear. To her siblings, she was a trusted anchor—the one they turned to for advice, for strength, and for help solving problems big and small. Her warmth and wisdom strengthened family bonds across generations, and her light touched everyone who knew her.
Ines was a woman of action. When her family needed something, she made it happen—whether securing a bus stop for her children or stepping in to coach her sons’ hockey team all the way to a championship. She lived her faith every day through love, generosity, and service.
Though she is no longer with us, her spirit and love remain in our memories, traditions, and every act of kindness inspired by her example. Tu amor sera' nuestra guia eterna.
