Henry “Joe” Herbon, 87, of Park Ridge, IL, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024, with loving family by his side. He was born December 14, 1936, to Harold and Lois (nee Tennell) Herbon in Evanston, IL. In his teens he joined the Marines, later to become a proud Marine Veteran.  Joe later married his first wife Carole McDuffee in 1958, second wife Carolyn Harvey in 1975 and his third wife Georgia Nechi in1998.

Joe was a fireman in the Wilmette Fire Department for 23 years as well as a US Postal worker.  He later worked for the Wilmette Water Department. Joe worked into his early seventies, then decided to retire. Joe was a member of the Wilmette American Legion where he served as Treasurer. He loved traveling abroad and yearly visits to Aruba. He also loved to travel to Las Vegas and gambled locally as well, his favorite game being poker.

Joe is survived by his, sister Patsy Eimers, former wife Carole Mcduffee Sellars, his children: Karen (Jim) Nashan, Debra (Rich) Petersen, Jodi (Doug) Sjong, Connie (Mike) Moser, John Ortegel, Steven Herbon, Donald (Kristy) Herbon, Joseph (Jennifer) Ortegel and Belinda (Scott) Knudsvig, son-in-law, John Fragassi. Grandchildren: Kate (Diane) Ortegel, Ashlee (Aaron) Szczerba, Jennifer (Bob) Rappaport, Joseph (Nicole) Watanabe, Lisa (Mike) Flores, Christopher Petersen, Lindsay Nashan, Ryne (Kayla) Knudsvig, Jessie (Anthony) Ross, Jaime (Brandon) Grosz, Michael (Diane) Moser, Avery Herbon, Travis (Abby) Knudsvig, Andrew Petersen, Demi (Zach) Verzal, Elizabeth Watanabe, Aubry Herbon, Devyn Sjong, Matthew Moser, Easton Herbon and Ben Ortegel. Great Grand Children: Autumn Szczerba, Addelyn Szczerba, Olivia Rappaport, Parker Rappaport, Emiko Watanabe, Benjiro Watanabe, Stella James Ross, Rocco Eugene Ross, Ryder Nash Grosz, Rowan Knudsvig and Piper Knudsvig.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents: Harold and Lois Herbon, wives: Georgia Nechi and Carolyn Harvey, brother, Donald Herbon, sister-in-law Helen Herbon, brother-in-law Ervin Eimers, children:  Linda Watanabe, Diane Fragassi, Robert Ortegel, Donna Ortegel; grandchildren: Kimberly Petersen.

Joe requested a private memorial.
