Giovanni Ricchio passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 8, 2014 with his beloved family by his side. He was the son of Antonio and Emilia Ricchio. He was born July 16, 1922 in Castrolibero, Cosenza Italy. Giovanni was a longtime resident of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois. Giovanni loved life and lived it passionately. He loved spending time with his loving family and in his beautiful garden. Giovanni was the beloved husband of Maria (Gervasi) Ricchio for 62 years; loving father of Emilia, Rita, John, Ann, loving father-in-law of James Mauro, Carmellina Ricchio, and Mark Drenovsky. He was the devoted grandfather of Lisa, Joey, Tony, Gina, Nick Fontanini; Maria, Johnny, Thomas Ricchio; Jennifer, Michael, David Mauro; Ryan and Joey Drenovsky; and great grandfather of Onalia Fontanini. Giovanni is survived by his devoted and loving brother and sister-in-law of Michael and Rachela Ricchio; his wonderful nephews and his many loving nieces. Special thanks to Dr. David Slivnick, his beloved Oncologist whom Giovanni adored and his loving Kristine Dagens who drew his weekly labs. He loved the entire staff at Northshore Oncology – Hermatology and they became a second family to him. Also special thanks to the entire emergency room staff at Advocate Condell Hospital who treated Giovanni with dignity, respect, and love on his many visits there. Also special thanks for the wonderful staff on 2East Condell Hospital who provided the family such wonderful support and accommodations during Giovanni’s final days.
