Giovanna Palmisano

Giovanna "Nina" Palmisano (Ferri), age 92, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026. Giovanna was the beloved wife of the late Michele; loving mother of Luke (Laura) Palmisano and Enrico (Jennifer La Civita) Palmisano and mother-in-law of the late Janet Palmisano; dear daughter of the late Teresa and Enrico Ferri. Cherished Grandma of Michael Palmisano, Donna (George) Demarakis, Christopher Palmisano, Jennifer (Steve) Joho, Sabrina (Christopher) Colsant, Nicole (Peter) Evanoff. Beloved Great Grandma Nina of Gavin Baxa, Janet Joho, Austin and Nolan Colsant, Grace and Peter Evanoff, Demetrios and Ella Demarakis. She was the dearest sister of the late Rocco (the late Teresa), the late Vittorio Ferri, and the late Antonette (the late Felice) Pentrelli. She was a fond friend, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law, along with many other nieces and nephews here and in Italy. She was known as "Grandma Nina" to all.

We lost our loving matriarch, who graced the earth for over 92 years with her graciousness, love and generosity. We were blessed every Sunday with her gift of cooking all things Italian from focaccia, to braciole, and her famous meatballs.

Arriving from Italy at the age of 19, she worked full time as an expert embroiderer for Victory Quilting Company in Chicago, commuting on the "L" until she retired at the age of 70. Married to Michele Palmisano, the loving couple eventually settled on the northwest side of Chicago where they raised their two sons. Her love for her husband and sons knew no boundaries. She was known by all their friends and family for her food and gentle hugs, always leaving her home with a bag of food.

She gifted every member of the family and their friends with very colorful, handmade blankets, hats, and slippers. She showered her two sons, their spouses, her six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren with her works of art and delicious food.

She will be missed by many because she touched the hearts of everyone throughout her 92 years.

Visitation Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of an 11:30 a.m. Funeral Service at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. The entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum in Des Plaines. For more information call (708)456-8300.
