Gilbert Ortiz

Gilbert "Gil" Ortiz, Retired Area 3 Detective, age 66, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2022. Gil was the beloved husband of his loving wife Grace Garcia Ortiz for 28 wonderful years; dearest son of Carmen and Angel Ortiz; loving father of Cynthia and Elizabeth Ortiz; dear brother of Nydia (Felo) Santana and Lissett Ortiz; and Papa Gil to Christopher (Barbara) Quiroga and Jacqueline Hererra; cherished grandfather of Victoria Amber, Salvador Quiroga, Abel, Amanda, Amado and Amaris Herrera; great grandfather of Anthony Naeven and Neovanni Herrera; fond uncle, cousin and friend to many. Gilbert worked as a security supervisor at Humboldt Park Vocational College/Wright Junior College for many years. Visitation Sunday, January 16, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. The interment will be private. For more information call (708)456-8300.
