George Gabauer

George J. Gabauer, age 83, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025. George was a dear son of the late Anna (nee Schaberger) and the late George Gabauer; loving brother of Carol (the late Ronald) Chmelar, Barbara and the late William Gabauer. George atteneded St. Alphonsus Grade School, St. George High School, DePaul University, and Northern Illinois University. George worked at Gordon Tech, St. Patrick, Maine South, and Northwestern University, as a teacher and coached cross country and track.   He was an avid nature photographer who spent over 30 years organizing and guiding wilderness canoe trips in Ontario’s Quetico Park. He also completed over 50 solo wilderness canoe trips. Cremation rites have been accorded and there are no services. George's ashes will be spread in Canada as per his wishes.
