Gary Michael Medina, 54, was called to heaven January 24, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.
Gary was born on July 19, 1971, to Ted and Laurie Medina. Gary had a great thirst for knowledge, and he received his Bachelor of Arts from Roosevelt University in 1997. Later, he went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wi in 2016. He was part of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Gary loved the political world and reveled in meeting thousands of people. He got his start working for the 33rd Ward in the City of Chicago where he worked for 16 years. He later ascended into the role of Sergeant at Arms for the Mayor and City Council of Chicago.
In June 2007, he met Rose via Match.com. They fell in love and got married in May of 2008. Together, they built a dream home in Westfield, Wisconsin. He took great pride in personally overseeing the building of the home; he was particularly pleased about his "man cave." They moved to Wisconsin in 2013 and soon after, he started working for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, where he excelled as an auditor. He was beloved by his colleagues for his good nature, quick wit and humor.
He was an avid fan of football, especially his favorite team, the Chicago Bears. He combined his love of football with his desire to serve his community when he began coaching football for the Westfield High School Pioneer Community. He coached for 9 years and relished mentoring the youth, and instilling not just football lessons, but life lessons as well.
He had many hobbies such as Fantasy Football, playing poker and hunting. His poker skills were top notch, such that he even participated in the World Series of Poker Tournament in Las Vegas.
His happy place was at "The Compound" in Westfield with his wife, Rose, loyal pups Kota and Chica, and mother-in-law, Linda. Only recently did the cat, Mystery, form a special bond with Gary. Mystery loved to take over Gary's side of the sofa and then Gary would surprisingly let him sleep on his chest.
In his free time, you could find Gary driving his UTV throughout their property, riding his lawnmower at breakneck speed just before a thunderstorm, kayaking in their pond and sitting by the fire. He enjoyed chopping wood, plowing the driveway, watching movies, Xbox, and home improvements, in which he took great pride. His witty character, echoing laughter and never-ending smile filled the world. He loved telling silly jokes, and making people laugh. His warmth, and good humor will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Rose, of 18 years, Mother Laurie Medina, brother David (Carolyn) Medina, niece Caitlin and many family and friends. There are too many to mention but you all know who you are.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ted Medina.
