In Loving Memory of Gaetano D’Astice
Our beloved father, Gaetano D’Astice passed away at the age of 97, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, integrity, and unwavering devotion to family.
Beloved husband of 70 years to the late Teresa D’Astice, nee Zaccaria; loving father to Rose (Joe) Felber, John (Grace) D’Astice, Theresa (Don) Kolbus; proud grandfather to Frank Felber, Jennifer (Ed) Weaver, Jaclyn (Keith) Panlilio, Teresa and Diana D’Astice, Zachary and Alyson Kolbus; great grandfather to Jillian, Jordan, and Joey Weaver and Reece Panlilio.
Dad was the rock of our family — our foundation, our guiding light, and the example upon which we built our own lives. A man of remarkable character, he was kind, compassionate, genuine, and fair, always approaching life with a positive outlook and a generous heart. He believed deeply in treating others with kindness, respect, understanding, and forgiveness. These were not simply values he spoke of, but principles he lived by every day.
A quiet and gentle presence, Gaetano also had a wonderful sense of humor and loved sharing a laugh with those around him. He was a natural storyteller, often reminiscing about his childhood in Italy and his journey to America. His stories connected generations, reminding us of our roots and the experiences that shaped the man he became.
At the heart of Gaetano’s life was his beloved wife Teresa, together they built a beautiful life centered on family and shared values. In retirement, they embraced their love of travel, creating wonderful memories along the way. Maui, Hawaii, held a particularly special place in their hearts. It was their happy place, where they enjoyed sunny days on their favorite beach, with Gaetano proudly earning his reputation as the bocce ball pro.
Affectionately known as “Mr. Fix-it,” Gaetano, a carpenter by trade could repair just about anything. If something couldn’t be fixed, his creativity and determination would lead him to another solution. Meticulous, precise, and admittedly a perfectionist, he took great pride in doing things the right way. He also had quite the green thumb, finding great pleasure in tending to his garden throughout the summer and preparing delicious meals with the fresh vegetables he grew. Our Dad generously gave his time and talents, never expecting anything in return.
Above all, his family was his greatest priority and proudest accomplishment. He was a steady presence and source of wisdom. A devoted grandfather to seven, and great-grandfather to four, he treasured the special bond he shared with each of them.
While we will deeply miss his gentle smile, his humor, his stories, and his love, we find comfort in knowing that the beautiful legacy Gaetano created lives on in all of us.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
