Frances Teresa Metro (aka Fran), "Mother Extraordinaire", 91, lifelong resident of Chicago, passed away on April 15, 2018. She was born February 12, 1927 in Chicago to the late Gaspare Ponzo and Caterina Cangemi, both Sicilian immigrants. In 1943, Fran graduated high school from Angel Guardians Orphanage, where she grew up with her brother and sister through the great depression and World War II. She was an active person with a love of sports, music, and dance. Fran was a career waitress, avid bingo and slots player, and card shark, and possessed a wicked sense of humor. A self-taught cook, painter and pianist, Fran was short on words, but long on love and creativity. She was completely dedicated to her family with infinite love for her husband, children, and grandchildren. Known as ‘my favorite aunt’ to many nieces and nephews, she made Monday nights famous for family dinners and pasta. Over her 90+ years, she saw much and lived a rich life. Fran was wife to the late Raymond J. Metro (1925-2008) for 51 years, raising 3 children in Chicago. Fran is survived by her sons Gregory Metro (Kathleen Metro), Joseph Metro (Tony DeYoung), and Steve Metro (Laura Ruby); her 4 grandchildren Melissa Metro (Jason Poleon), Jessica Metro, Matthew Metro, and Stephanie Metro. She is also survived by her brother Vic Ponzo (Glee Ponzo) and in memory of her late sister Toni Jones (Guy Jones). Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 18 from 3pm to 8pm at Cumberland Chapels funeral home, 8300 Lawrence Ave, Norridge, IL 60706. There will be a short service on Thursday April 19 at 10:30am starting at Cumberland Chapels and proceeding to St. Adalbert Cemetery.
