With deep love and gratitude, we announce the passing of Felipe Bonafacio San Diego, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Felipe was born on May 1, 1935, in Bulacan, Philippines, to Leon San Diego and Vicenta Bonifacio. He grew up with a strong work ethic, first as a hardworking farmer, then learning trades as a television and radio technician, air conditioning repairman, and auto mechanic. After immigrating to the United States, Felipe proudly built a career in healthcare as a Respiratory Therapist, dedicating many years of service at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago until his early 80s.
Felipe married the love of his life, Florencia Ponce San Diego, with whom he shared a lifetime of devotion, laughter, and countless memories. Together, they raised their children, Robert San Diego and Rosemarie San Diego. Felipe was a proud grandfather to Jordan Chang and a doting great-grandfather to Elijah Chang, and proud father in law to Teresa Valiente.
Felipe’s siblings—Urbana Alejandro, Carmela Tuazon, Fortunato San Diego, Lorenzo San Diego, Rogelio San Diego, and Josefa Grospe—and many beloved nieces and nephews, including Marylou Alejandro, Maria Alejandro, Brenda Tuazon, Ranji Grospe, Shirley Grospe, and Joevan Grospe—will forever cherish his memory.
Felipe was a man of many talents, but above all, he was a family man. He found joy in ballroom dancing with Florencia, fishing with his children, and celebrating life at family gatherings with friends. His warmth, humor, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew him.
Felipe’s life was a true testament to perseverance, dedication, and love. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
