Evangelos “Lakis” Ballis, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by Family on July 25, 2020. Lakis was the beloved husband of Urane "Ronnie", nee Bertsos, for 54 wonderful years; loving father of George E. (Maria) Ballis; cherished grandfather of Evangelos “Angelo” Ballis; dearest son of the late Ekaterina and Simeon Ballis . He was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters and was a fond uncle of many. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Funeral services begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home, and then proceed to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 2727 W. Winona St. in Chicago for a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. The interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove. Lakis started off his career as a professional Bouzouki player. During that career he produced and scored many television shows in Greece and in the US. In 1981, he changed his career to become an insurance producer where he achieved many honors. This included “The President’s Achievement Award” two years in a row and was elevated as an “Eagle” for his consistent status of excellence. In his spare time, he loved spending time with family and friends. He was also a former founding member and president of the Athenian Piraeus Pericles Organization as well as the former editor of Hellenic Vima Newspaper. Due to the current health guidelines, masks are required at all times and we are limited to 50 attendees at a time.
