By the decade’s end, they were engaged to be married. In 1950, Evangelia followed Yerasmus to the United States. They married in Boston. Within the next few years, Yerasmus earned a Ph.D. in theology from Boston University. Evangelia accepted an appointment as a medical resident in pediatrics and cardiology at Boston City Hospital; by the end of her residency term, she was appointed chief-resident.
