Efthimios 'Jimmy' Kanavos, 81, of Norridge passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at his home after a valiant battle with cancer on Valentines Day, February 14 2015. Dearest son of the late George and Stavroula Kanavos, loving husband of Eleni. He was a proud and doting father of his daughter Stavroula and son George who all live in the Chicagoland area. A truly self-made man, Efthimios emigrated to the United States from Tripoli, Greece in 1950 at the age of seventeen and worked tirelessly to become a successful restauranteur and provider for his family. Jim was the renowned and respected proprietor of The Miami, The Terminal, Parkview and Tom and Jerry's among several other fine and oft frequented establishments. Well known for his calm demeanor, affable nature, generosity and sound judgment - Jimmy loved overseeing the daily operations of his restaurants and treated his employees like family. In addition, Jim loved working in his garden, dancing and spending time with good friends. However, above all else, Jim loved being around his family who brought him endless pride and joy. Efthimos lived a 'top shelf' life and will be profoundly missed by his family, friends and anybody who had the great pleasure of knowing this truly remarkable man.
