Mom, Grandma Nina, Auntie was a lifelong Chicago resident. She was born on the south side near Brighton Park and attended Davis Elementary School, Kelly High School and Chicago Teachers College, now known as Northeastern Illinois University, where she graduated with her degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Physical Education. She loved children and people in general and after graduation began her long career with the Chicago Public School system teaching at Thorpe school. After marriage to Ed in 1955 and moving to their new house on Sayre Avenue on the Northwest side of Chicago, she took a break from teaching to raise children Keith, Ken and Karen and enjoyed many a coffee klatch/happy hour with her dear neighbors, hosted Club and joined a bowling league at Holiday Bowl. Dolores was proud of her Russian roots and would frequently attend St. George’s Cathedral on Wood Street where she would speak Russian to the parishioners and always include a stop at Augusta Bakery afterwards. When her children were all in school, she returned to work substitute teaching and then teaching full time at Portage Park and Hanson Park schools where she made long-time friends. Dolores loved cooking and baking and was famous for her homemade cole slaw, pancakes, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and apple pizza. After retiring from teaching at the young age of 70, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening, painting, reading, going to the movies, dancing and traveling. She was an avid Chicago Bears fan and told everyone not to call her during the games because she would not be answering the phone. Dolores was a one-of-a-kind mom, mother-in-law, daughter, daughter in law, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, neighbor and friend who focused on the positive and was always there to help, listen, and give advice when asked.
