Son of the late LeRoy and Bernadette Kelly. Beloved husband of Annamarie Kelly for 42 years. Devoted father of Michael (Kristen), Timothy (Nicole), and Dennis (Elena). Loving grandfather of Jack, Leah, Callahan, Lyla and Morgan. Cherished uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. Admired brother of Kevin (Kathy) Kelly, Regina (Timothy) Szyska, the late Rosemary (Michael) Scianna, Patrick (Marybethe) Kelly, and Michael (Darlene) Kelly.
Dennis proudly served in the Chicago Fire Department for 36 years, retiring as a battalion chief. He was known for his bravery, dedication and calming presence. He spent the majority of his career at Engine 124, Truck 28, with additional service as a lieutenant at Engine 35, Truck 22, and as a captain of Engine 2 (fireboat).
He was a proud alumnus of St. Bartholomew School and Gordon Tech, and a longtime parishioner of St. Francis Borgia Church.
Dennis loved riding his motorcycle, traveling, and spending time with his wife, three sons and grandchildren. He was an engaging storyteller who always knew how to make others laugh. He cherished time spent at the family cottage and never missed his Sunday ritual of “Lou Mal’s at 4.”
Dennis was an inspiration to everyone who knew him and will always be remembered as a bright light who truly loved life. He was a hero to strangers, a friend to many, and a role model to those closest to him.
His legacy will live on through his family, and his grandchildren will grow up knowing he was extraordinary. He will be deeply missed, but his impact will never be forgotten.
