Chester E. Zdunek, “Chet”, age 91, US Army Air Corps. WWII Veteran, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2016. Chester was the beloved husband of Alice, nee Opiela for 66 wonderful years, dearest dad of Kenneth (Mary), Joan Zawodniak and Alan (Teresita), adoring grandfather of Jeffrey (Amy), Evan (Kira), Laura (Ryan), Pete (Kasey), Kevin (Wendy), Kara (Noah), Maria, David, Sara and Catherine, adoring great grandfather of Amelia, Lily, Calvin, Margaret, Samuel, Ava, Ethan, Landon, Benjamin and Emma, loving son of Jacob and Josephine, dear son-in-law of Jacob and Harriet, dear brother of the late Dolores (the late Edwin), Lillian (the late Ray), the late Stanley, Helen, Lottie and John, loving uncle and great-uncle for many nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces. Chester had a passion for community service; he was a member of the VFW Post 3579, the Crane High School Alumni Association, past president of the Harlem-Foster Property Owner’s Association and was very active at St. Monica Church as past-president of the Holy Name Society, Senior Club member, extraordinary minister, and usher. His greatest love was his family. Visitation Sunday Jan. 31st. 2:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Funeral Monday Feb 1st. beginning at the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. and then proceeding to St. Monica Church for a 10:00 a.m. Mass. Entombment will follow at St. Adalbert Mausoleum in Niles.
