Carol Conway

Carol Jean Conway (nee Sedenquist) passed away peacefully on Friday, September 1st, 2017, in Chicago at the age of 80. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence Conway. Loving mother of Scott (Nancy) Nelson, Stephen (Stacy) Nelson, Todd (Joanne) Nelson, Cynthia Goffinet, Christopher (Lisa) Nelson, and Lisa Nelson; Stepmother to Thomas (Susan) Conway and John (Rebecca) Conway. Cherished grandmother of Timothy Nelson, Michael (Lara) Nelson, Nicholas Nelson, Michelle Nelson, Kristin Goffinet, Kelly Nelson, Mackenzie Nelson, Jennifer Nelson, Jake Goffinet, Kayla Goffinet, Annika Nelson, Grace Nelson, Jenna Conway, Samantha Conway and Kathleen Conway. Survived by her brother Ronald (Peggy) Sedenquist and preceded in death by her brother Gary (Orvella) Sedenquist and her parents Charles and Helen (nee Bruyere) Sedenquist. Carol was born and raised on a farm near Escanaba, Mich., and moved to Chicago after graduating from high school. She remained a resident of Chicago for the rest of her life. A devoted fan of the Cubs, as well as the city of Chicago, she reveled in their World Series triumph last fall. She married at the age of 18, and became a mother a year later. Thirty years later, at the age of 49 and a mother of six, she took the entrance examination for the Chicago Police Department, entered the Academy and became a Police Officer at the age of 50. After a year, she transferred to the East Chicago Avenue District, where she spent the remainder of her career, until mandatory retirement at age 63. Carol was also a faithful friend of Bill W. for more than 41 years. Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 from 3:00 - 9:00 pm at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Avenue, Norridge, IL. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 3857 N. Kostner Avenue, Chicago, IL.
