Brian Barnett was a gentle, honest man whose legacy will lie in the hearts of the innumerable people whose lives he has touched. On March 28, 2014, Brian passed away after a year-long battle with cancer. He is survived by his parents, Mary Andrews and Lynn Huling, his sister Laura Witt-Deal, his Aunt Julie Kossart, numerous cousins, He is also survived by his Misericordia, Shabbona Park, and Community Alternatives Unlimited families. Brian anticipated each day with joy. He enjoyed fine food, fishing, camping, frequent trips to Disney World and visits to family in Minnesota. Brian was blessed to live in Misericordia's Brach Home for 14 years. There, he worked at his dream job in the purchasing department, delivering items throughout Misericordia's campus. He also enjoyed painting, gardening, and hanging out with his buddies at Brach Home. He participated in numerous Special Olympic activities with his Shabbona Shark team. Brian was an avid figure skater, swimmer, golfer, and enjoyed many team sports. Throughout his Special Olympics career, he was awarded hundreds of gold, silver, and bronze medals. Visitation Friday from 3:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave. Norridge. Funeral Saturday beginning at the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. and then proceeding to St. Eugene Church for 10:00 a.m. Mass. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
