Beverly Sorensen

Beverly Rita (Arens) Sorensen, 87, of Norridge, formerly of Chicago, died Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Born on March 10, 1937, to Marguerite Arens, she married Donald P. Sorensen on Sept. 16, 1961, in Chicago. He preceded her in death in June 2013. She was the loving mother of Janet Sorensen (Benjamin Hoz), David Sorensen and Susan Holt and the devoted grandmother of Madeline and Jessica Holt; Sadie, Liam and Toby Sorensen; and Mattias Hoz. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother and her twin brother, Ronald Arens.Beverly was a longtime employee of St. Mary of Providence, a Chicago nonprofit residential and day services facility for people with developmental disabilities. For the last seven years, she made her home at Central Baptist Village in Norridge, greatly enjoying the friends she made there and the myriad activities they provided.Passionate about swimming, she and her husband loved being able to use the pools at Chicago's Shabbona and Portage parks and spending time at the Indiana Dunes and in Lighthouse Point, Florida, where they had a second home for many years. A lifelong Democrat, she was dedicated to addressing issues of social injustice. Visitation for Beverly will take place on Friday, May 17, 2024 from 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave. Norridge, Il. Interment will be private.
