Benero Martinez retired sergeant with the Chicago Police Department and current U.S. Marshall, Age 82 passed away on January 18, 2026. Benero was the beloved husband of Rita (nee Morales for 63 wonderful years ); loving father of Rita Marie (Ken) Pappas, Frank Rico Martinez, and Benny Rico (Claudia) Martinez and Michelle Martinez; dear son of the late Aurea (Aponte) and the late Venero Martinez; cherished grandfather of Charlie Cruz Pappas, Ben Antonio Martinez, Cammie Dolores (Miguel) Salazar, David Alexander Martinez, Adrianna Isabel Martinez, Kayla Stella Bailey and Samara Rose Bailey; great grandfather of Liam, Mateo and Alessia; dearest brother of Palmira (John) Fontera, Reno Martinez, preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters. Fond uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend of many.
