Barbara Ann (Koss) Parungao, a loving mother, aunt, sister, and loyal friend, passed away on Friday, August 9th, 2024, at the age of 59, after a courageous and prolonged battle with cancer. Barbara is preceded in death by her devoted parents, Gilbert and Eleanor Koss, and her cherished brother, Gregory Koss.
Barbara will be deeply missed by her beloved daughter, Carolyn, who was the light of her life and with whom she shared many cherished adventures. She is also survived by her brother Don and his children—Kristie Lynn, Travis, Brittany, and Lydia—as well as her lifelong best friend, “Babs” Behrendt.
A proud attendee of the University of Illinois, Barbara embarked on a fulfilling career, first with the Tribune Company in Chicago and later dedicating 13 years to TreeHouse Foods in Oakbrook, IL.
Barbara's zest for life was evident in her many passions. She found joy in music, art, crafting, cooking for her friends, yoga, meditation and adventure travel. In recent years, she developed a profound love for Michigan, often retreating to the serene beauty of the Upper Peninsula, Traverse City, and Sleeping Bear Dunes. North Bar Lake Beach, in particular, held a special place in her heart.
Barbara's ability to see beauty in everyone and everything made her a cherished presence in the lives of those who knew her. She was strong willed and elegant. Her vibrant spirit and kindness will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of crossing her path.
A celebration of life and short service will be held to honor Barbara’s legacy at Cumberland Chapels in Norridge IL (8300 W. Lawrence Ave. Norridge, IL 60706 ph: 708-456-8300). The visitation will take place Friday August 16, 2024 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a memorial service at 6:30 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a cancer research charity of your choice, in memory of Barbara.
