August V. Locallo, 74, of Northbrook, Illinois passed away suddenly on January 26, 2024. He was the loving son of the late August R. Locallo and Anna Mae (Kelly) Locallo. Gus was recently married to
Deborah Stoery
and was her loving husband. He was the beloved father of Mark, Eric, and Lindsay Locallo and remained close to the mother of his children, Karen. Gus was the beloved brother of Daniel Locallo (Jean) and Mary Kay Reichenbach (Carl), and the late Victor Locallo. Gus cherished his role as grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. He was grandfather to Felicia Vargas; Colin, Vince, Amber, and Liam Locallo; and great grandfather to Arrow. He was a very loving uncle to Lauren Stump (Chris), Kevin Locallo (Kate), and Chase Reichenbach; great uncle to Lily and Gavin Stump and Keegan, Dylan, and Logan Locallo.
A graduate of Notre Dame High School and DePaul University with a degree in economics, he worked for many years on the CBOE trading floor as an OEX trader. He was intensely engaged in charting his stock market stats in his retirement and alert to day trading opportunities. His love for people shone through while working at the Ace Hardware Store. As cashier, he would greet people, chat a bit, and give them absolutely no advice on repairs.
His first and everlasting passion was baseball, and game statistics were committed to memory and eagerly disseminated. Gus was a Northbrook Park District volunteer baseball coach for 35 years. In August 2023, he was recognized for his dedication in helping to improve players’ baseball skills and emphasizing sportsmanship by being inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame. His love of baseball was so encompassing that he always knew how many days there were until spring arrived and with it the start of baseball season.
During his childhood, Gus was a master at creating games which occasionally led his brothers and sister into trouble. He had a lifelong obsession with movie going/popcorn—and was loathe to share the popcorn. His more recent hobby was playing pool. By studying videos and practicing three times a week, he was thrilled with his continued improvement. He enjoyed the bread and his favorite pasta dish at a
local Italian restaurant,
Oliverii’s. He was fascinated by the new cultural experiences introduced to him by Deborah such as attending ballets and a variety of other
dance performances.
Family and friends will miss his outgoing and engaging personality, his jovial laugh, and his kindness to others.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name are appreciated and will be used to enhance improvements and amenities in Northbrook where Gus spent so much of his time giving back to the community.
