Anthony J. "Tony" Gutilla. Beloved son of the late Sam and the late Rose Marie Gutilla; loving brother of the late Marty Gutilla; fond uncle of Shauna (Ron) Kelley and Sam Gutilla; great uncle of Anna and Christopher Kelley; dear cousin and friend of many. Tony Gutilla was born in Chicago on March 19, 1944.After attending Taft High school in Chicago, Tony attended North Park University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Education. Tony began his career working as a teacher for several years in several Chicago high schools. Following his stint in education, Tony decided to become at actor, and was soon accepted into the prestigious Goodman Theater in Chicago, where he performed in many well-received plays throughout the early and mid-1970s.He moved to New York City in the 1970s, where he acted in off-Broadway plays. In the early 1980s, he relocated to Los Angeles, CA, where he worked as a film actor, appearing (under his stage name Tony March) in movies including Looking for Mr. Goodbar, Wrong is Right, Shallow Grave, Ghoulies 4, Demolition High and numerous TV appearances.In the 1990s, he focused on the production side of entertainment, serving as an associate producer on several smaller films.Along with his entertainment career, Tony was also well-known as a public face and manager of restaurants including the iconic Italian restaurant Miceli’s in Hollywood, CA -- and after returning to Chicago in 2001, he was also the well-known manager and face of the popular Tavern on Rush in the Gold Coast area until 2009.At both Miceli’s in Hollywood and Tavern on Rush, Tony successfully turned both restaurants from being tourist-focused eateries to a leading destination for well-known celebrities, sports superstars, broadcasters and politicians.Tony had a bigger-than-life personality and always exuded confidence, humor and charm. He was a master storyteller. He will always be remembered by his friends in both Chicago and Los Angeles as a deeply loyal confidante and advisor – always there to build confidence in others and to help solve problems when he was needed by anyone close to him. Family and Friends are asked to meet Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1107 N. Orleans, Chicago, IL 60610 for Mass at 12:00 noon. Interment is Private. Please omit flowers.
