Almeda Maynard

October 17, 1939 — January 3, 2024

Almeda G. Maynard, 84, at rest January 3, 2024. Beloved wife of Theodore R. Maynard for over 57 wonderful years.  Loving mother of Theodore Scott Maynard and Kelly Lynne (Richard Spiwak) Maynard.  Cherished grandmother of Theodore Justin Maynard and Andrew Joseph Maynard; great grandmother of Sierra Penelope Moran-Maynard.  Dear sister of Gertie, the late Margaret, the late Richard, the late Helen, and the late Evelyn.  Fond aunt of many.  Almeda was a graduate of Cornell College in Iowa, and earned her Master’s Degree in Library Sciences from The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.  Almeda was a librarian for many years.  She was tasked with starting the first library co-op in the nation between the states of Iowa, Illinois and Missouri.  She later worked for the City of Chicago Public Library starting at the Legler Branch, then working as the Branch Head at Hamlin Park, Oriole Park, and retiring from the Edgebrook Branch.  For a few years she dabbled as a den mother in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.  After retirement, she traveled extensively with her husband.  Visitation will be Thursday, January 11, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W Lawrence Ave, Norridge, with a Funeral Service at 6:00 p.m.  Interment will be private.  Info:  708-456-8300
