Obituary for Alice M. Pecko

Alice M. Pecko (nee Rybnik), 91, passed away on August 5, 2018 after a brief illness. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Edward Pecko, her parents Joseph and Harriet Rybnik, and her sisters Dorothy Bukiri and Theresa Mikolaitis. She is survived by her 3 children, Kathleen (Geof) Silbert, Linda Wagner (Janine Hoft), and Joseph (Janet) Pecko, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all of her family, her cherished surviving friends and all who knew her.
Alice received her RN certification through Loyola School of Nursing program at St. Anne’s Hospital in 1947 and worked as an industrial nurse for several local companies. In 1949 she married Ed, had 3 children, and returned to nursing in the office of Dr. Mianowski, where she worked for many years.
She was active in St. Hyacinth parish, participating in committees and clubs. Upon retirement, she joined several golf and bowling leagues, as well as bridge clubs. She and Ed travelled around the world and when home, were active volunteers at Resurrection Hospital. An avid Blackhawks and Cubs fan, she enjoyed the Hawks' three Stanley Cups, and finally got to see the Cubs win the World Series when she was 90!
Gardening was one of her passions, growing enough tomatoes, raspberries, and purple green beans to last the winter. She and Ed worked the garden by the Grotto on the Retirement Community grounds. She was known throughout Resurrection Hospital for her enormously beautiful dahlias.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 9:30 AM at Presence Resurrection Retirement Community Chapel, 7262 West Petersen Avenue, Chicago.
